Your personal settings
Personal settings are available to every authenticated person. Open the avatar menu → Account. The Personal settings category contains Profile and Preferences.
- Profile (
/settings/profile) stores your identity details and account-closure controls. - Preferences (
/settings/preferences) controls appearance, reading, notifications, and guides. - The old
/hub/settingsaddress redirects to Profile.
The separate Settings item, shown in the menu only to administrators, opens the organization’s subscription; it is not the route to your personal account.
Understand the scope of each choice
Section titled “Understand the scope of each choice”| Scope | Examples | Where the choice is stored |
|---|---|---|
| Your account | name, photo, Room defaults and sounds, push master switch | follows you across organizations and devices |
| This browser | theme, reading, room layout, dismissed guides, and push subscription | applies to organizations opened in this browser and syncs across its tabs, but does not move to another device |
| Organization | language, time zone, logo, people, and permissions | belongs to the organization and requires the corresponding access |
Profile: Information
Section titled “Profile: Information”Open Profile → Information.
Select Upload photo or Change photo. The file can be PNG, JPG/JPEG, WEBP, or GIF and up to 5 MB. The browser crops the center, resizes it to a 256 × 256-pixel square, and saves the result as JPEG; GIF animation is not preserved. The image then appears in the account menu, Rooms, and other surfaces that identify you.
Select Remove to return to initials. The profile stops using the photo immediately.
Name and email
Section titled “Name and email”- Full name: enter up to 120 characters and select Save changes. The name is reused to identify you in messages, assignments, and history.
- Email: is read-only on this screen. It identifies your login and receives invitations; the interface does not offer an email-change flow.
Profile: Password
Section titled “Profile: Password”Open Profile → Password and:
- enter Current password;
- enter a New password from 6 to 128 characters that differs from the current one;
- repeat it under Confirm new password;
- select Change password.
SquadOS reauthenticates the account with the current password before storing the new one. An incorrect current password, nonmatching fields, or reusing the same password stops submission and displays the error on the corresponding field.
If you do not know the current password, sign out and use Forgot my password on the login screen. That is a separate email-reset flow, not part of the Password tab.
Profile: Close account
Section titled “Profile: Close account”Open Profile → Close account. What appears depends on the rollout and the organizations attached to your identity.
When closure is not enabled yet
Section titled “When closure is not enabled yet”The tab displays Not available here yet and tells you to contact support. Reload before concluding that the feature is unavailable: a failure while loading the current inventory is also presented as if the rollout were disabled.
When you do not own organizations
Section titled “When you do not own organizations”Select Close my account, read the consequences, continue, enter your password, and confirm. The identity is closed immediately, the session ends, and you leave the organizations where you were a member.
Content created inside those organizations — such as conversations, agents, and files — stays with them. Signing up later with the same email creates a new account without the closed identity’s organizations, history, or settings.
When you own one or more organizations
Section titled “When you own one or more organizations”The wizard lists every organization, not only the active one:
- if other members remain, transfer ownership to a person who is already an administrator;
- if there is no eligible administrator, promote or invite one before returning to this flow;
- if you are the only person, type the exact organization name to confirm that it will close with its content;
- after resolving every row, enter your password and confirm.
When an organization must complete a scheduled closure, your account remains accessible until the latest date shown. The tab changes to Closure in progress and offers Cancel closure while steps remain reversible. Organizations that have already crossed the irreversible point do not return; the confirmation reports how many could not be restored. Dates use the browser’s formatting.
See the Data deletion policy for retention and effects by data type.
Preferences: Appearance
Section titled “Preferences: Appearance”Dark mode switches between light and dark themes. It is the same preference used by the theme control in the header, and changes propagate to other open tabs in this browser.
The choice is stored locally. With no saved value, the product follows the operating system color preference on first read; after you choose a theme, it keeps that choice until you change it or clear site data.
Preferences: Reading
Section titled “Preferences: Reading”These controls change conversation text without enlarging the rest of the interface:
- Size: 13, 14, 16, 18, or 20 px;
- Font: Default, Serif, or High legibility;
- Spacing: Compact, Normal, or Airy;
- Room layout: List or Bubbles. This fourth choice applies to Rooms; direct messages remain in bubbles.
Restore default appears only after a setting visible in this section has changed. The same controls are available under the Hub’s Aa control; both surfaces use this browser’s local preference.
Preferences: Notifications
Section titled “Preferences: Notifications”Room default
Section titled “Room default”Room notifications sets the value inherited by rooms without their own override:
- All messages;
- Mentions and replies — the initial default;
- None.
A room’s bell can choose another level or return to the account default. The room-specific setting overrides this preference.
Sounds
Section titled “Sounds”Notification sounds is a ceiling and never makes a muted room play a sound:
- Follow each room — the initial default;
- Mentions and replies only;
- No sound.
Room and sound defaults live on the account profile and follow you across browsers.
Notifications while SquadOS is closed
Section titled “Notifications while SquadOS is closed”Notify me while SquadOS is closed combines two decisions: your account’s master switch and this browser’s subscription. Enable it separately on every device where you want push notifications. The browser asks for permission only after your click.
- If permission is blocked, follow the displayed instructions for Chrome/Edge, Firefox, Safari on Mac, or iOS; SquadOS cannot reverse a browser denial.
- On iPhone, install SquadOS on the home screen before the browser can offer push.
- Turning the control off closes the account switch and removes this browser’s subscription. Turning it on again in any browser reopens the global switch and subscribes that browser.
- Push still respects each Room level: a Room set to None does not send an alert.
Preferences: Screen guides
Section titled “Preferences: Screen guides”Explanatory panels can be dismissed individually with ×. Show guides again clears every dismissal stored in this browser; eligible guides return when you open their screens. It does not change onboarding, account data, or preferences on another device.
